Starting work in a new company can be challenge. At Novocure, our team of dedicated HR Specialists work diligently so that new employees have what they need for smooth starts.
From the moment a new employee in Germany, Austria or Switzerland signs their contract, Mirjam Niederberger works diligently behind the scenes to provide them a positive onboarding experience. Mirjam, based in Switzerland, is the HR Specialist for employees in the DACH region. She collects important documents, sets up accounts and ensures that everyone has the information they need.
Some colleagues relocate to Switzerland to work at our headquarters. After signing their contract, they may have questions about moving and working here. “I am there for them as their primary contact and ‘safe haven’,” said Mirjam.
Often, she can help directly. If she can’t, she knows which team to consult or refer the request to. “I recognize that joining a company requires an advance of trust from the new employee, and I am committed to honoring that trust by working towards a smooth start at Novocure,” she said.
Mirjam regularly hosts group tours of our office in Switzerland so our new colleagues can meet their new coworkers, strengthening our culture of close collaboration.
Following this tour, Mirjam also holds a live onboarding session for new employees in the EMEA region. The session provides a solid basis for their onboarding experience with important information about the teams, systems and the mission and values of Novocure.
Mirjam recognizes that trust is crucial in the corporate world. We need to be able to rely on ourselves, and each other, to get our jobs done.

To build and maintain trust, Mirjam draws from lessons learned from her favorite hobby.
Around the same time she learned to walk, Mirjam took up the sport of climbing, a common hobby in her family. She began climbing inside a recreation hall in Switzerland, where she scaled two-meter (6.5 feet) high walls above floors covered with mattresses to support her falls.
At first, Mirjam was afraid that others would let her fall. She felt safest climbing with the people she had developed a deep sense of trust with — her mother and sister. Over time, she learned to trust that others would catch her on her ropes if she fell. This gave her comfort, security and a feeling of safety.
Above all, she learned to trust herself. Mirjam learned that to be successful and reach her goals, she had to be able to trust her instincts and skills. Without trust, she would have been too focused on her fear of falling. Mirjam now prefers to climb solo a few times a year.
“You can find trust everywhere,” Mirjam said.
